Smashing Pumpkins 20th Anniversary Tour
The Smashing Pumpkins have announced an upcoming 20th Anniversary tour. The band will kick off the tour in August and play smaller venues with unique sets and songs. Then in November the band will kick it up a notch and play more arenas.
“The August tour is going to be a blast… Expect a very loud and raucous show from us…and we are very, very happy to know we will finally be playing our own shows come November in New York, L.A., and Chicago… The 20th Anniversary shows will be magical… We are already working on lots of surprises,”
I am hoping those surprises are the original line up of James Iha, Billy Corgan, D'arcy Wretzky, and Jimmy Chamberlain. Hell I can replace D'Arcy with Melissa Auf der Maur and still have it be the Pumpkins for me. But if Iha is not there or Auf der Maur or Wretzky, this is a Zwan show.
I saw Zwan and they were terrible. Billy was just going through the motions. He didn't even play one Smashing Pumpkins song, which everyone wanted to hear. Anyway, there will be a reissue of Gish and another tour to correspond with that reissue. Expect that tour sometime in 2009.
*Update* Rolling Stone is reporting that Iha and D'Arcy will not be involved in the anniversary shows. So this is still Zwan playing Pumpkin songs.

D'Arcy and Iha never actually played on any Pumpkins albums anyway...it was all Corgan and Chamberlain....
Iha wrote more songs than Chamberlain.
No doubt the band has always been Billy Corgan. I can't deny that. But they are a four-piece live. So why not have the original four that started on Gish tour? Especially since this is a 20th Anniversary Gish tour.
