Scarlett Johansson Has an Album
I love when Hollywood stars think people want to see them branch off into other projects. When an accomplished actor/actress becomes A-List status, they inevitably turn their eyes towards becoming A-List in the music industry. It rarely works, (Don Johnson, Jack Wagner, Rick Springfield, Russell Crowe, Keenu Reeves, John Cena, should I continue?).
The latest Hollywood starlet to try their luck in music is Scarlett Johansson. She has an album where she covers only Tom Waits songs. The album "Anywhere I Lay My Head" is described as "an intimate experience" by Johansson.
The sad thing is David Bowie has sung back vocals for two of the 11 songs on the album. Whether David Bowie knew what he was recording for or not remains to be seen.
Rolling Stone gave this review:
"Johansson's voice is unremarkable and her pitch sometimes unsteady; she's a faintly goth Marilyn Manson lost in a sonic fog,"
Mojo Magazine had this to say:
"fussy and forgetable"
We don't have a copy of the album and we will not buy it. But I did find this clip on YouTube which is her video for the song Falling Down. Make sure you don't have any sharp instruments near you when you listen to it. You will want to kill yourself or stab your ears.

Rick Springfield had 5 top ten hits, a #1 hit that still survives in movies, commercials & on mp3 players everywhere, a Grammy, over 20 albums and still recording, still selling out venues, still writing his own material - was a successful musician with a hit records and a career BEFORE he even touched acting. Do your research before you use people as examples - in this age of Google, Wikipedia, artists' websites, etc., there's just no excuse for such careless accusations.

Your argument has become null and void when you mentioned a Grammy win. Since when did winning a Grammy become the automatic seal of approval for "good music"? James Maynard Keenan said it best, "I think the Grammys are nothing more than some gigantic promotional machine for the music industry. They cater to a low intellect and they feed the masses. They don't honor the arts or the artist for what he created. It's the music business celebrating itself. That's basically what it's all about."
Remember when Jethro Tull beat out Metallica's ...And Justice for All for Best Hard Rock/Metal performance?
Besides none of those accomplishments you listed happened before he started acting (which was in 1973 due to a problem with his management). He was on the most successful soap opera of the 70s and 80s (General Hospital) and it is hard to say if he was popular because of success of the soap or popular on the single merits of his songs.
I refuse to believe that the latter is the case. The popular soap opera was constantly pushing his album and it didn't help that he performed some of the songs on the show either.
