Academy Awards Red Carpet Thoughts

I caught a bit of E!'s Red Carpet Extravaganza. I tuned in thinking it was about Lindsay Lohan's vagina, but was sadly mistaken. But I did find myself watching 4.5 minutes of this snoozefest and I felt the need to comment.

What kind of state is our country in when we have seven hours of Red Carpet coverage for an event in Hollywood? I know the American public can't possibly give a shit about this event. The questions were all the same. "Who are you wearing?" Always asked by some "fashionista," who blew the producer to get on the show. The public can't even afford nor pronounce half the designers, so who fucking cares who the "stars" are wearing?

Let's not forget, these people are entertainers. They are not gods. They are not police officers, soldiers, or even teachers. They pretend to be someone else in a movie to entertain us. Then they feel the freaking need to tell us who we should vote for, or what charity to promote, or even what medicine works for my Osteoporosis (Sally Field I am staring right at you)

By 11:45 pm EST, the Oscar broadcast was still going on. So from 12 noon EST until 11:45 EST, the Academy Awards ruled the airwaves. That is way too much dedicated to some movie I probably won't like and some actress who has no personality.

You know what movie kicked ass...Sin City. Did that win best picture? Fuck no. You know why? Because Hollywood wants to promote serious acting. "Those making advancements in the craft of acting." I call bullshit. Make crap blow up, show a nipple, and add a twist I didn't see coming. Add in an appearance by Megatron and I will buy that movie on Blu-Ray right now.

I rebelled by playing video games and writing blogs, what did the rest of the country do? I have a feeling you all had better things to do than watch this 4-hour circle-jerk. I am proclaiming this will be one of the lowest rated Oscar telecasts in the history of the Oscars. But does it matter? Nope, it will be back on next year to bore the rest of the country again.

**Update** It seems my prediction was correct. It was the least watched ceremony of all time. That includes the Grammy's, the People's Choice, etc: http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/oscars_tv_ratings Suck it Oscars!

I personally rebelled because they snubbed the best movie of the year, "American Gangster". Apparently Denzel and Russell have won enough awards. To be honest I probably wouldn't have watched it anyway. The last time I cared about these awards, Lord of the Rings was nominated. I predict that I won't care again until the Hobbit is nominated. Fuck you Hollywood. It takes a Kiwi to make a real movie.
