Knee-Jerk Reaction to Corporate Half-Time Shows
Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers have apparently found the last remaining stash of Quaaludes in North America, and in true 70's rocker fashion, they consumed them all. I'm not even complaining about the out of tune guitars, that fucking beard or the coached audience that made this fantasically commercial moment seem even faker than it was. The band picked up a little during "Running Down a Dream," and Petty even forced a smile in his sedated state, but I'm still scarred from the first three songs, and confused by the addition of Momar Quadafi and Tony Alva to the band. No more ludes, please. I was going to include Tom Petty playing "American Girl" on The Old Grey Whistle Test, but his corporate pimps disabled the link. Next year...Motorhead?
As a consolation prize I offer Motorhead's "Whorehouse Blues."
