Dimebag's Final Word Revealed
Dimebag's final words have been revealed by his brother Vinny and they are awesome. You might be expecting "Dude, I love you." or "Dude, let's kick some ass out there" or the even more morid "I am going to be shot in 3.5 minutes." But in an interview with Contact Music, Vinny had this to say:
"The last thing that really matters to me is the last thing we said to each other before we went on stage. We were warming up on the side of the stage like we always did and we were both really excited - we only had two shows left and we were gonna be going home for Christmas and to begin work on the second [Damageplan] record. Our code word to let it all hang out and have a good time was 'Van Halen'. And that's the last words we ever said to each other. I said 'Van Halen' and he said 'Van Halen' and we high-fived each other and went on the deck to do our thing. And a minute and half later I'll never see him again."
This is the same thing I say to co-workers when leaving work for the day in case I die in a horrific car crash going home. It is the same message I leave on the kitchen table for my parents to read when I emerge from the basement to attend work. It is the same thing I email my significant other before retiring to bed.
Sure the phrase varies a bit. It might be "Dance the night away" if I am leaving work or "Somebody Get me a Doctor" when I call in sick. It might be "Feel Your Love Tonight" when leaving to meet the girlfriend. Either way, all final sayings have been an homage to Van Halen and I mostly speak in Van Halen song lyrics. So I approve of his final words, if you don't count the gurgling.
