Review of Belladonna at the Fillmore in NYC

Sandwiched between the sets of Baptized by Fire and Twisted Sister was Belladonna, which is led by Joey Belladonna, the second, and arguable most recognizable lead singer of Anthrax.  Anthrax enjoyed most of their success while Joey was the singer, and his choice of songs for the hour long set on Friday would indicate that he enjoyed his time with them just as much.  While I don't have the setlist handy, I can confirm that most of the songs were Anthrax originals.

The band was joined on stage for a number of songs by former Grim Reaper guitarist Nick Bowcott.  We had the pleasure of seeing Nick open up for Black Label Society a few years back and perform a guitar tribute to Dimebag Darrell.

The band was impressive, if not a little excessive.  They definitely have earned their chops.  Drums, check.  Bass, check.  Guitar, check.  Hair, double check.  This is one of the most grizzled bands that I have ever seen live, but bless them, they know how to keep the eighties alive with respect to haircuts.  I cannot describe Joey Belladonna's physical appearance up close other than to say that he looks like a mutant sewer rat emerged from the MTA Subway system and formed a band (see figure to the right).
