They'll Like Ike (now that he's dead)

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at PhotobucketHere's how they're ranked for All-Time Top 5 Rock n' Roll Villains, with a posthumous nod to the recently departed Ike Turner.

5. Chad Kroeger
4. Jess
3. Ike Turner
2. Joe Jackson
1. Hitler (his band, "The Third Reich" toured Europe extensively)

*note: If Michael Jackson gets busted again, he might crack the Top 5.

Yep, Ike's a solid Top 5 contender for his reputation as the drug-addled, abusive husband of Tina Turner. Ike admitted that he was not proud of his drug use, but he's never owned up to any physical abuse...so who knows...maybe he isn't that terrible.

Putting Ike's unsavory reputation aside, he enjoyed a rather long and successful career in music. Turner has been credited with recording the first "Rock n' Roll" song in 1951, "Rocket 88." After this first taste of success, Ike and his band backed legendary blues acts like Elmore James, Otis Rush and Howlin' Wolf. Eventually Anna Mae Bullock, aka Tina Turner joined the fray and became the centerpiece of Ike's R&B extravaganza through the 60s and much of the 70s.

Sadly Tina will always get more credit because she sold more albums, but hey, those legs would still be waitressing at Howard Johnson's if Ike didn't find her. Ike constantly recorded and toured after his split with Tina, but never really got his due until his Grammy nomination in 2001.

Enjoy this Ike Turner double shot. First we have Ike and Tina playing Rex's favorite, "Nutbush City Limits."

Next, here's Ike with "Rocket 88."

Following up, I just read somewhere that Ike admitted to slapping Tina, and even punching her to the ground on occasion, but never "beating" her. I guess Ike's line was just a little thicker than ours.

All of Europe was a buzz for The Third Reich Band. The only real competition came from Japan. The band was Hirohito and the Nankings.
