Nashville Pussy Concert Review from Philadelphia 11/14/07

Nashville Pussy
Nashville Pussy brought their merry sounds to the TLA in Philadelphia. I refuse to call it the Fillmore at the Theater of the Living Arts. Nashville Pussy was opening the Reverend Horton Heat and Hank III and Assjack.

I have seen Nashville Pussy in a smaller, hole-in-the-wall bar. They put on a great show, preferring to get down and dirty, spit beer directly in your mouth, and allow you to lick their bass. But this show was at a larger venue and they seemed distant.

The crowd interaction was kept to a minimum, but I don't blame the band, I blame the venue. They are a headlining band, placed in an opening slot, so they didn't want to upstage the Reverend Horton Heat. The Pussy had been tamed, for now.

The set also drew more on the new material and less on the classics. Say Something Nasty and High As Hell made it into the 40-minute set, but "Gonna Hitchhike Down to Cincinnati and Kick the Shit out of Your Drunk Daddy" was sorely missed.

I am not saying that the band was bad this evening, I just expected more. If Ruyter Suys isn't half naked by the end of the performance, something is drastically wrong. Her clothes remained on, and the band left the stage after riffling through their set.

If you have a chance to see the band, I highly recommend them. If you get a chance to see them in a club that holds less than 500 people, do it. If you don't have a good time, BnR will send out the "BnR whores" to make up for the loss of your time. Send us an email and your location. We will be happy to direct them to your domicile.
