An Interview With Jacky Bam Bam

The Rock Radio scene in Philadelphia has been decimated by corporations. Corporate suits think they know what rockers want, all talk and no rock. There is one man who has never given into the corporate pressure. A man of the people. A man who knows and understands the Rock industry. That man is the Godfather of GoGo, Jacky Bam Bam.

Jacky Bam Bam is a DJ for the revamped 93.3 WMMR in Philadelphia. I remember losing my virginity to the voice of Jacky Bam Bam in the back of my Ford Explorer during college. The sad thing was my mother thought I was making love to her, but it was Jacky's name I was calling.

Jacky also spins metal at Cheerleaders Gentleman's Club in Philadelphia. Here is our exclusive interview with the legend of Philadelphia Rock Radio, Jacky Bam Bam.

BnR: How did you get into the radio industry?

JBB: I owe it all to Tim Sabean and Couzin Ed, he's the man! He saw me at Cheerleaders and asked me if I was interested in radio. I felt real out of place not being behind the mike. The studio was full of guys who went to broadcasting school. But I'm a fast study, and the rest is history.

BnR: What is your least favorite song to play on the air?

JBB: As David Bowie said, "I am a DJ I play what I play!" I don't have a least favorite. I just love music.

BnR: WYSP's new slogan is "The Rock is Back." Is it here to stay?

JBB: Why? Do you know something I don't?! Kidding, yeah, I'd say it's here to stay!

BnR: What bands do you wish you could play on the radio?

JBB: Cinderella, Throbs, Hanoi Rocks, Electric Angels, The Faces, and of course World's Greatest Rock N' Roll Band The Stones!

BnR: Who would win in a fight, Keith Richards or Mick Jagger?

JBB: Mick is in way better shape, but Keith can take a punch as shown when he fell out of the tree last year. It would be some battle. I really don't know!

BnR: We recently spotted you covering the Van Halen show here in Philadelphia. How did you like the show?

JBB: I was not looking forward to them as much as other shows, but I was really impressed. Great songs never die and the kid Wolfgang...wow a lot of press on someone so young. He blew me away and totally kicked ass! As did Van Halen!

BnR: If you were a member of the A*Team, which member would you be and why?

JBB: The guy that George Peppard played, John "Hannibal" Smith. All my life it seems I was the guy with the plan while friends and band mates followed!

BnR: So you were in a band?

JBB: Scarlet Fever and we released a record on vinyl, that is showing my age...haha, called "Just What The Doctor Ordered" on Perris records. I was also in the Dogtown Balladeers which released two CD EP's "A Tale Worth Hearing" and "All Dressed Up In Dreams" and a full-length CD called "Antique Wine and Roses" They were released nationally on Relative records. Good times.

BnR: You also spin records during the happy hours and peak times at Cheerleaders Gentleman's club in Philadelphia. What do you order when you eat at one of those gigs?

JBB: I rarely eat when working. Actually, have you seen me? I rarely eat! [Editors note: A picture of Jacky concludes this interview]
