NME fails to get Sex Pistols on the top of the chart
NME tried to make "God Save the Queen" by the Sex Pistols a number 1 single, 30 years after it first missed the target. However the campaign, backed by the Foo Fighters, Klaxons, and the Beastie Boys, failed. The single peaked at a respectible 42 this week.
"God Save the Queen" peaked at number 2 in the United Kingdom. It was only outsold by Rod Stewart's "I Don't Want To Talk About It"/"The First Cut Is the Deepest." Rumors swirled that the establishment kept the single from the top spot.
The digital downloads failed, but EMI noted that it was the best-selling vinyl single of the week with sales of some 3,100.
You be the judge as to which songs are better. Here are Rod's "I Don't Want To Talk About It" and "The First Cut is the Deepest"
