Ryan Adams in Birmingham
In case you do not know, Ryan Adams cut his set short last night due to a few fans heckling him and calling out requests. Generally, great musicians either ignore the hecklers or go all Michael Richards on their ass. But there are other musicians who are complete douchebags over the whole thing. I forgot how sensitive Ryan "Weeping Vagina" Adams is about his song choices.
Here is a report about the incident:
Ryan Adams and the Cardinals came onto the stage after an intermission. After the first song somebody shouted out, "Halloweenhead," and there were some cheers. Ryan leaned into the mic and told the crowd that he appreciated the requests but the band had a great list of songs planned for the night. After the next song there were a couple more shouts, mostly just enthusiastic fans. Ryan goes into a rant about why would they drive across the country without knowing what songs they would play. He starts to play again, but stops to rant again, this time asking the crowd if they would go to a movie theater to see Titanic and demand the ship doesn't crash. Then mentioned something about how they do things in New York.
At some point a girl in the back yells "Sing A Song!" Ryan nods and the band goes into a blistering number. Then Ryan tells the crowd they are awesome, says goodnight, and the band leaves the stage.
So I would like to apologize for my antics and I will come clean with what exactly I yelled at this show. I was standing stage left and I noticed how AWESOME this concert was going. I must admit I had a few beers too many and realized I wanted to hear some of Adams hits. So I started yelling for "Cuts Like A Knife," "Summer of '69" and "Run To You" just to name a few. I continued to yell for these hits. I mean it was getting close to the end of the show, when are you going to play the hits? Then the guy gets sand in his vagina and leaves the stage.
It wasn't until after the show did I realize I was watching RYAN Adams and not BRYAN Adams. My friend handed me the ticket and I could only see the YAN Adams part of the ticket. Naturally, I assumed it was the greatest Canadian singer, who now lives in Philadelphia, Bryan Adams. So my apologies to all those in Birmingham. I ruined your show.
