Madonna said to be near 120M deal?
I give the Material Girl lots of credit, she has never caved into what society thinks. She has constantly reinvented herself from teeny bopper, to sex kitten, to yoga master, her incarnations are as diverse as her catalog of music. Her politics are somewhat dubious, but to quote one of my favorite T.V. Theme songs "You take the good, you take the bad, you take 'em both, and there ya have the facts of life, the facts of life."
So when news broke this week that Madonna was nearing an epic $120 million dollar recording and touring deal with Live Nation Inc I was stunned. Madonna would receive a signing bonus of about $18 million and roughly $17 million advance for each of three albums. That doesn't even include the take she will haul on the touring portion.
It is a proposed 10 year deal that would give Live Nation the rights to sell Madonna merchandise, license her name, and any revenue from said endevours would be split between Madonna and Live Nation.
Warner [her old record label] tried to strike a deal with Ticketmaster, but just couldn't compete with Live Nation. I must ask though, is she worth it? Her last album wasn't as successful as "Ray of Light." Sure her tour grossed a dumptruck full of money and orphans from Africa, but is she really worth a $120 million dollars? Is anything truely worth $120 million dollars? Ok, yes there is, Megatron's recording contract was worth $120 million dollars when he signed it back in 1993. But to be honest, he is more of a nostaglia act now after his last CD of cover songs failed.
