Sting is the worst lyricist ever

In the most recent issue of Maxim's Blender magazine, Sting was named the worst lyricist ever.  In one of the greatest quotes of all time, Blender cited it's reason for Sting topping the list as: "mountainous pomposity (and) cloying spirituality,".

1. Sting
2. Neil Peart
3. Scott Stapp
4. Noel Gallagher
5. Dan Fogelberg

Blender assailed Sting for such alleged sins as name-dropping Russian novelist Vladimir Nabokov in the Police tune "Don't Stand So Close to Me," quoting a Volvo bumper sticker ("If You Love Someone Set Them Free"), and co-opting the works of Chaucer, St. Augustine and Shakespeare.

A spokeswoman for the English rocker, who is currently in Belgium on the Police's reunion world tour, did not respond to a request for comment.

I don't know, worst lyricist is kind of harsh. Just because Blender can't understand Jungian philosophy as written in Synchronicity II, doesn't mean he's the worst lyricist ever.

Blender is corporate so they probably hailed "My Humps" as one of the best lyrical accomplishments of this century.

That's it, you have pissed me off. I am going to blog about this.

Paul Stanley is one of the worst lyricist and one of the best. It depends on the cross-section you slice.

    Love Gun - Awesome
Made for Lovin' you - Awful

Just found your entry when I was searching for that very same article (I read it was in Revolver). I think that these corporate publications are full of it, especially considering the types of bands that they put on their front covers each month.

I was a little disappointed to see Neil Peart of Rush listed as #2 - I think he's had the most influence over most of those groups that line the very same pages of their magazine.

Apart from that, I wonder if Nickleback made it on their list?
