Grateful Dead launch Satellite channel
On September 7 at 12p.m EST, Sirius Satellite Radio will launch the Grateful Dead channel. The channel will feature music spanning the band's "celebrated" history, which began in 1965. Listeners will be treated with rare and unreleased performances and original shows hosted by Grateful Dead members Bob Weir, Phil Lesh, Mickey Hart, Bill Kreutzmann, and special in studio guest, the less corpulent corpse of Jerry Garcia.
The man has been oddly silent in the last decade and it will be good to hear his thoughts on the war in Iraq, the state of the music industry now, and if his San Fransisco brothers Metallica are sellouts or innovators.
The channel will debut with a broadcast of the band's 1974 performance at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles. The performance will be followed by a special hosted by Weir.
"Since we announced the launch of the Grateful Dead Channel, it has become one of the most anticipated music channel launches in our history." says Scott Greenstein, Sirius President. "The loyalty and passion of Grateful Dead fans are the truest testament to the band's legacy. Sirius is thrilled to bring exclusive content to this community and welcomes their continued participation as Sirius becomes part of the Grateful Dead family."
I think listening to this channel would be torture. I would rather have bamboo shoots shoved under my nails than listen to this channel. Actually here is a list of things I would rather do or have done to me:
- Be John F. Kennedy JR. co-pilot
- Beaten with bars of soap concealed in tube socks
- Go back in time and sit in the backseat of a red Ferrari with Razzle and Vince Neil
- Drawn and Quartered
- Spun on the Wheel of Fortune like wheel with active grenades bouncing around
- Ride on horseback with Christopher Reeves
- Marry Terri Schiavo
Now you are scared. Is the picture going to be of Christopher Reeves in a wheelchair, will it be of the vegetable Terri Schiavo? Well the answer is all of them.
