CBGB Founder dies of lung cancer

Hilly Kristal who founded the New York City Punk club CBGB died on August 28. He was 75 years old and died from complications relating to lung disease.

Country Bluegrass and Blues (CBGB) was instrumental in launching the careers of The Ramones, The Talking Heads, Blondie, Patti Smith, Richard Hell and countless others.

CBGB closed its doors in October 2006 because the lease was up and the owner of the building no longer wanted to lease it to CBGB...or something like that.

Hilly was looking at opening other CBGB clubs in Vegas, where the hipsters could continue to buy over-priced shirts to show how 'punk' they are. The only thing that could make you hipster "punk" is if you took your three year old to a stripper contest.
