Sometimes it pays to let the dead sleep

BostonI am going to try and relay this week's "One Life to Live" episode to you as plainly as I can. It is a long, storied history with trampled feelings and bruised egos. Let's begin.

Back in March, Brad Delp, lead singer of Boston, committed suicide. Read articles here and here. His kids claim the reason behind the suicide was the inner tension between the band members. So to honor their father's memory, they started the cogs of the Boston machine rolling toward a full scale reunion. It was to be called "Come Together" aptly titled because Delp was a huge Beatles fan.

A bit of history on Boston. Boston is the mastermind of one guy. He wrote all the music and the lyrics for every Boston song ever recorded. That man is Tom Scholtz. Tom had some 'creative differences' between himself and the rest of the band starting on the second record "Don't Look Back." This caused one giant schism in the band that never really repaired itself.

Scholtz continues to tour using the Boston name, however, none of the original members are in that Boston. The original members were Brad Delp, Sib Hashian, Barry Goudreau, Fran Sheehan, Fran Cosmo, and Tom Scholtz. It was this group of individuals that Delp's kids wanted to play for their father's memory.

Livenation.com released a press release informing fellow Boston fans and concert goers that the original Boston was to perform a memorial show for Brad on Aug 19 at the Bank of America Pavilion. Several hours after the press release, it was retracted and Scholtz's name was dropped.

"There was a miscommunication about when the release was to be sent out. As soon as everything is finished and all confirmed we'll send out another one." Livenation.com spokesperson Heidi Collins said.

Scholtz apparently has not signed off on the idea of joining his former bandmates. He is only supposed to perform one song, "Don't Look Back" at the conclusion of the show. Yet, this guy can't get his head out of his ass to honor his dead 'friend.'

The lesson here is: DO NOT listen to bands named after a geographical location. They generally suck. Think about it: Kansas, Boston, Chicago, Alabama, London, Berlin, and Paris Hilton.
