I was too protected as a child...after seeing this:

The Muppet Show originally ran from September 1976 to June 1981. Having been born in 1982, I missed the original run of the Muppet Show. Lucky for me, it was syndicated. One of my earliest memories was watching the show with my sister. I remember it as if it was yesterday...

I was about 4 years old and she was about 3. We were sitting in the living room of the apartment our parents were renting. We were sitting on the couch watching this on Sesame Street:

Our father and mother come running into the living room from differing parts of the apartment frantic and screaming, "Stop watching that kid-oriented bullshit! No son of mine is going to turn out to be gay! Time for you two to grow up AND fast." My sister and I hadn't seen them that excited since the last time we saw them hiding that body.

However, what they turned on scared me more than their frantic screaming and the closet full of severed heads. It was Alice Cooper singing "Schools Out" wearing a red jumpsuit with a cat tail while towering muppets danced around him. Thanks to YouTube, I have located the original clip for your viewing pleasure. It is time to witness what scared me as a child, but something that my parents mandated I see.
