Video Game keeps rock alive

Guitar Hero 3When Activision Inc announced that they had created a guitar game for the Playstation 2 it was met with skepticism. Who wants to pretend to play a guitar? The guitar doesn't even help you learn how to play guitar! Millions of units later, it became a break out hit for the Playstation 2.

It was easy to see why though, it had great songs (Ziggy Stardust - David Bowie, Bark at the Moon - Ozzy Osbourne, Ace of Spades - Motorhead). The popularity caused Activision to create a sequel. This one contains great songs as well (The Trooper - Iron Maiden, Surrender - Cheap Trick, Shout at the Devil - Motley Crue).

It has helped to infuse classic rock staples into the heads of teens worldwide. This has to be a good thing! The game does a great job of mixing newer artists with older ones. While we hate My Chemical Romance here, all except Bob, their popularity can't be denied. So Activision has placed them in the game and still has Dick Dale, Alice Cooper, and Rick Derringer for the die hards.

The new Guitar Hero 3 line up is sure to please fans and help work rock further into the subconscious of video gamers. Some of the songs to appear in the game are:

Paint it Black - Rolling Stones
Cherub Rock - Smashing Pumpkins
Sabotage - The Beastie Boys
The Metal - Tenacious D
My Name is Jonas - Weezer
Knights of Cydonia - Muse
Rock and Roll All Nite - KISS
School's Out - Alice Cooper
Slow Ride - Foghat
Cult Of Personality - Living Colour
Barracuda - Heart

Activision's Guitar Hero has done more for rock music than music labels and the RIAA combined. Gutar Hero 3 will appear for the Playstation 2, Playstation 3, Xbox 360, and the Nintendo Wii.
