Fox News musical noob makes bold statement

As we all know Rush has a new album out called Snakes and Arrows. The single Far Cray sounds great and it is a breath of fresh air to the dilapidated music industry we see today. I will admit that Rush can be more of an acquired taste. Not everyone can understand how impossibly hard it is to play even their simplest riffs. There is one part, in a song that escapes me at 8am, that goes from a 2/3 to a 12/8 back to a 3/4 time for the drums. It all occurs in about 10-15 seconds.

Rush's new album has sold 84,000 copies and is number 3 on the Billboard chart. This prompted a self-proclaimed music reporter at Fox News to pen this:

Rush is back. The big hair, fake falsetto heavy metal group that made the 1980s so irrelevant musically sold 84,000 copies for Atlantic Records last week with a new album called "Snakes & Arrows." Never underestimate the low standards of the buying public, I guess. Journey, Poison, shoulder pads and perms shouldn't be too far behind at this rate.

"Never underestimate the low standards of the buying public, I guess?" Did he just say that about a Rush album? Let's take a look at the current top ten on Billboard that this douchebag thinks is BETTER than Rush.

1. Ne-Yo - Because of You
2. Michael Buble - Call me Irresponsible
3. Rush
4. Avril Lavigne - The Best Damn Thing
5. Tori Amos - American Doll Posse
6. Miranda Lambert - Crazy Ex-Girlfriend
7. Daughtry - Daughtry
8. Blake Shelton - Pure BS
9. Various Artists - Now that's what I call music volume 2,497
10. Carrie Underwood - Some Hearts

How can purchasing a Rush be more despicable than buying Avril Lavigne? This reporter is clearly upset at the lack of Pat Boone records in the top 20 right now.

Let's now discuss this statement "that made the 1980s so irrelevant musically" The 1980's so irrelevant? Has this guy listened to any album since 1970's? Did he completely miss the rise of these bands:

AC/DC                  U2
Van Halen            The Clash
Talking Heads      Bob Marley
Michael Jackson   Motley Crue
Metallica              Megadeth
Madonna             Suicidal Tendencies
Prince                  REM
The Smiths          Bruce Springsteen
John Fogerty       Robert Palmer
N.W.A                 Guns N' Roses
Bon Jovi              Jane's Addiction
The Pixies           Red Hot Chili Peppers
New Order          Bad Religion
Public Enemy      Def Leppard

In one small blurb this guy has shot his musical integrity in one premature ejaculation. I will refrain from spitting venom at this man, because he has done enough spitting at the truck stops with Jim McCreevy. I also would link to the article, but he doesn't need the hit count.
