Goodstock 2007

Before their was Ozzfest, Lollapalooza, or Family Values, there was Woodstock. It was the largest collection of bands ever to assemble on one location for a weekend of free music, drugs, and herpes. A reincarnation of the festival in 1999 brought only bad publicity as the hippies clashed with Columbine-esque killers, which resulted in riots, fires, and the end of Limp Bizkit (thankfully).

However, this is 2007 and the creators of Woodstock, well one of them Artie Kornfeld, is planning Goodstock. He and Larry McClurg, apparently a musician, will be organizing the event in Summersville W.V, (No word on if Deliverance themed events will be available).

The acts are the new local heroes of the U.S.: popular MySpace bands. McClurg advertised MySpace and, after getting 500 responses and reviewing hundreds of CDs, accepted 90 bands and turned down 190 others. Each band gets $3,000 to hop in vans and get their shit to West Virgina.

He will have one large band close the show each night. So far all that has been announced is Jefferson Starship and Big Brother and the Holding Company. Apparently Artie, enjoys bands without the leading women that made them famous (Slick and Joplin).

This festival will be a giant festering turd. Not only do you get bands on MySpace (who are usually awful), but you get washed up bands who are trying to hold onto something they once had. You also have a promoter out to clear his name from the '99 debacle.

The only thing that might save this festival is the free love and drugs. But this statement from Kornfeld himself ceases that:

Families are welcome, there will be room for on-site cooking and camping, and the event will promote a weekend away from all the troubles in the world.

Families + MySpace bands + washed up Woodstock headliners - Drugs - Sex + West Virginia. The only thing to result from this combination is this picture I found on MySpace, which will not only show you the quality of the bands you are receiving, but the quality you can expect from this festival.
