Bono wins award, transcends race

U2 frontman Bono has been known for years as a philanthropist and a humanitarian.  His mission to end AIDs in Africa has cemented his status among the truly great.  It is barely appropriate to call Bono a mere human anymore.  He cannot be described as Irish, male, a musician, and don't you even think about calling him Paul David Hewson.  He is simply Bono.  How could Mr. Pride further prove to the world that he is the greatest man alive?  How about by becoming black.  That's right folks, Bono is now black.  Or at least he was recognized by the NAACP as a brilliant humanitarian.

Other winners on Friday night include Presidential hopeful Barack Obama, who won a literary nonfiction Image Award, and Bono, who won a Humanitarian Award called the Chairman's Award for his work to end poverty in Africa. The Roots even performed "Pride (In the Name of Love", a U2 classic, to honor Bono. He told the audience "Today the world looks again to the NAACP. We need the community that taught the world about civil rights to teach it about human rights."

I'm sure that when Alex Haley wrote Roots, he envisioned the message to be relayed by a guy who wears sunglasses indoors and hocks iPods.  BnR would still like to congratulate Bono on his new race.  If only white people could get rid of Paris Hilton.  Does this remind anyone of Chapelle's Show?
